AUDET - Automated Design Tool
AUDET or Automated Design Tool was a research effort carried out by the corporate Stantec research team and the Boston Architecture Studio. The purpose of the project was to study various unit mixes for compact floor plan residential buildings in the city of Boston. The tool utilized an automated method of subdividing rectilinear floor plates into units and applying appropriate block elements containing floor plan information constrained to unit partitions. The goal of this project was to increase the speed in which this scale and type of massing can be carried out with real time data and proforma being generated as various massing options were explored. Data reporting in the rhino interface was courtsey of Conduit by Proving Ground. The reason why Stantec invested in this was to build institutional knowledge and empower the designers within the organization to learn to build and customize these tools rather than depending on third party applications such as Testfit.
